Large Enterprise Progressive Programming Support
Problem:
Out of Balance and Unbilled accounts, Incomplete service orders, Illogical account/service dates, Unusual levels of Customer Complaints and Inquiries were clear indicators that serious problem(s) existed in the Customer Service Billing system of a major utility.
Solution:
Beacon's Professional Services Group was contracted to provide Structured Systems Analysis and Design Services on their existing business and data processes. During the evaluation it was ascertained that the problem was system wide and related to current date handling criteria and existing policies/procedures.
Beacon redesigned the existing system to include a service connection point which alleviated many of the problems associated with equipment to service relationships.
In collaboration with Company officials binding policies were established regarding customer account and service date handling procedures. A complete reengineering of the billing, customer, service, orders, and equipment processes was required to resolve all of the system deficiencies. In doing so we created several stand-alone routines that incorporated the newly established date policies as well as other logical data processes that eliminated the possibility of user error.
Problem:
The Water Authority for a Caribbean Government was running out of DASD space due to the storage of enormous amounts of obsolete data. This condition has caused enterprise wide system failures resulting in unacceptable down time as well as lost productivity.
Solution:
Beacon has developed, tested and delivered data purge and archival procedures and software for the Water Utility Authority. The data purge process allows for the removal of the offending obsolete data while providing a structured method in which to store and retrieve specific data.
Problem:
A National Solid Waste Processing Company was under intense scrutiny from the EPA with regards to the collection, testing and results reporting of waste and water samples from their network of testing laboratories. The staff of lab technicians and management was unable to utilize an existing system they had purchased in order to comply with all EPA rules and regulations regarding the waste water treatment industry.
Solution:
Beacon conducted a complete review of the current laboratory practices, procedures and reporting methods. A thorough search for the existing source code revealed that the company had never accepted delivery of the source code and for all practical purposes it does not exist. It was Beacon's recommendation that a complete system development process be undertaken in order to provide greater public safety, process efficiency and to alleviate further EPA scrutiny.
Problem:
The user group would frequently call upon the IT department to produce reports that were not available to them. This caused a serious obstruction in daily work processes for the IT group as well as cause critical information delays for management.
Solution:
Beacon created a series of batch and online programs, menus and screens as well as other required modules to alleviate this reporting problem. The project was delivered 1.5 months ahead of schedule saving the client more than 40% of the original estimation.
