Enterprise Application Manager
Problem:
During the development of multiple Web Enabled Applications for a major client we determined the need for a Centralized User Authentication Process. Automatic one step switching between the applications was essential.
Solution:
To perform as required a completely new security system was offered by Beacon. During the design phase it was determined that through the use of Metadata and Object Oriented Design a completely encapsulated system could be created to secure the application modules as well as automatically generate many of the most common user entry forms.
The use of Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) technology allows the system to function in combination with multiple databases from most major providers.
Implemented as Active Server Pages, a full compliment of system administration functions were included. A single facility to administer application permissions, user information, and group level security was created to simplify user maintenance for not only employees, but vendors and customers as well. Interfaces to add and update group level security entities, application availability, module security values and user security overrides were also provided to round out the security administrations tools.
As a byproduct of the use of Metadata, functions were created to dynamically produce typical inquire, add, change and delete information from the database(s) dramatically decreasing construction times and associated costs. The appropriate data entry validations were automatically performed during form data submission.
To complete the package a centralized company Internet/Intranet Portal was included to allow a vestibule for entry into secure areas and make company information available to customers, vendors and employees.
