Consumer Confidence Reporting
Problem:
When a major water utility contacted us with a need to publish information to the Internet we thought no problem, right up our alley. Then they started dropping bombshells. First, there were 209 different primary water sources requiring publication of 209 unique reports, more difficult, but manageable. Second the reports were required in Spanish as well as English, 418 reports, still reasonable. The third requirement was the kicker; it had to be written, tested and published in less than three weeks.
Solution:
Beacon set to work creating a database driven reporting system that was scalable for their future reporting needs. By collaborating with the utility's officials a fully functional consolidated reporting system was developed to allow customers to access their Consumer Confidence Report by geographical reference or by entering their account number.
Integrated into a fully functional web-site as Active Server Pages on IIS running on NT 4.0 servers, the new system takes advantage of the latest open architecture technology to accommodate the company's future plans. The scalability designed into the system allows the publication of future year's reports by simply adding the information to the consolidated database.
All done in less than three weeks.
